Last thanksgiving, we went skiing in Denver, CO and it was quite fun. It was my first ski trip and it involved a lot of falling down! Thank God I did not break any bones. When I saw the description of the Chalet Girl on Netflix, I was quite intrigued. I wanted to see how the pros ski/snowboard!
The movie is about a ex-skateboarder based in the UK. Kim Mathews (Felicity Jones), was an accomplished skateboarder and had won many awards until the accident. After losing her mother, Kim gave up skateboarding to work at a restaurant. She interviewed for an opportunity as a “chalet girl” in Austria. On the first shot, she doesn’t get it as she lacks the qualities of a typical chalet girl, but later she learns that she gets to go to Austria. Although not so psyched about the idea, she accepts the opportunity as it sure does pay well.
Awed by the high snow clad mountains and the lifestyle, Kim soon starts to have fun there with Georgie (Tamsin Egerton) and instantly falls for Johnny (Ed Westwick), the rich son of Richard (Billy Nighy) and Caroline (Brooke Shields). Johnny is however taken and is in a relationship with Chloe (Sophia Bush). When I saw the two stars, I felt like I was back watching CWTV!
Kim soon learns to snowboard and as a gifted skateboarder she tries hard to excel at snowboarding. The story then revolves around Kim enjoying skateboarding and eventually participating in a competition that would help her earn $25,000.
A fun movie to watch and I sure loved to see people snowboard. This movie makes me want to go skiing again! There were a lot of predictable moments, but I enjoyed it for its sheer simplicity. It was refreshing to see Ed Westwick in a role where he was rich boy with no arrogance. As you can see, I follow Chuck Bass on Gossip Girl! Add it to your queue, if you are interested in a romantic comedy revolved around a sport.
